2026 Ford Super Duty Engine Options for F-250, F-350, & F-450

Super Duty Engine Guide - Preferred Ford of Grand Haven

The Ford Super Duty sets the standard for the entire heavy-duty pickup truck segment. There are several factors that contribute to that segment-leader status, but one of the most important is the engine lineup. All of the engines available for the Super Duty provide excellent capability, but there are still some differences that set the four engines apart. That’s why we put together this guide to Super Duty engines.

Ford Super Duty Engines

Ford Super Duty
Engine 6.8-liter V8 Gas 7.3-liter V8 Gas 6.7L Power Stroke® V8 Turbo Diesel 6.7L HO Power Stroke® V8 Turbo Diesel
Horsepower 405 430 475 500
Torque 445 lb-ft 485 lb-ft 1,050 lb-ft 1,200 lb-ft

The Super Duty comes with a choice of four engines, two gasoline and two diesel. All four are available in the F-250 and F-350, including dual-rear-wheel configurations of the F-350. The F-450 is diesel-only in consumer form, although commercial versions of the F-450 are available with the 7.3-liter gasoline V8. The diesel options offer more power, but there is a price advantage with the gasoline engines, and choosing the right engine is about more than just picking the one with the most power. Different engines are better suited to different tasks, but to illustrate this better, we’re going to need another chart.

Ford Super Duty Towing And Payload

Model F-250 F-350 F-450
Max Conventional Towing 22,000 pounds 27,000 pounds 30,000 pounds
Max Gooseneck Towing 23,000 pounds 32,900 pounds 40,000 pounds
Max Payload 4,240 pounds 8,000 pounds 6,322 pounds

The differences between the capacities of the different Super Duty models also explain the differences between the different engines. For example, gasoline engines are better for hauling payload, while diesel engines are better suited to towing. That’s why the F-450 might have the highest towing capacity, but the lack of an available gasoline engine means that it’s the F-350 that offers the highest payload capacity. The F-250 and F-350 are both offered with the same engines, but the option of a dual-rear-wheel configuration for the F-350 shows that the engine isn’t the only factor that contributes to towing and payload capacities.
